Open Mic Night
Are you a fiction writer, poet, storyteller, actor, singer, musician? Show us your talents at our open mic night. Sign up will start at 6:00 at the venue. The open mic will begin at 6:30. Or join the audience for what is sure to be a fun and varied evening. And don’t forget to bring your friends! Refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by End of the Line Humanists, not the Oak Park Public Library.

Forest Home Cemetery Tour
Get your spook on at our tour of Forest Home Cemetery, home of the Haymarket memorial, Emma Goldman’s grave, and much more. This walking tour lasts for approximately 1 ½ hours and will include walking on grass, so may not be ideal for all individuals. We’ve arranged a special rate of $15 per person, payable in advance via PayPal or Zelle. Please email us at beings@ELHumanists.org to reserve your spot. We’ll adjourn to a local eatery afterward for food, drinks, and conversation. Please be prepared to cover the cost of your meal.

Trivia Night at Scratch on Lake
Join us for one of our most popular activities—trivia!—at Scratch on Lake (just east of Oak Park Ave. on Lake St.). We won first place at our last trivia night, so let's keep that momentum going! Beyond Hunger (food pantry) Volunteer Day
Here’s an opportunity to do some good in the world! End of the Line Humanists will be volunteering as a group at our local food pantry for a two-hour shift in early August. No previous experience is necessary. Please RSVP to beings@elhumanists.org if you’re interested. If we get enough volunteers, we can add more food pantry volunteer dates to our calendar.

Summer Social Gathering

A Day in Our Village Community Fair
End of the Line Humanists will again have a booth at the annual A Day in Our Village Community Fair in central Oak Park. We’ll distribute information on our group, show our presence in the community, and meet lots of new people. There will be a dinosaur-themed game and candy for the kids, a t-shirt giveaway for the adults, and the chance to have your picture taken with (a life-sized cutout of) Charles Darwin. Stop by and check us out!

Book Discussion Group: The Fundamentals by Lydia Gordon
Join us for a discussion of Lydia Gordon’s topical humanist novel, The Fundamentals, about the effects of a local megachurch on the lives of three women and their community in central Illinois. TheHumanist.com calls Gordon’s debut “a novel you won’t want to put down.” The author will be on hand to answer questions and sign books. The Fundamentals is currently available on Amazon.com, in both ebook and paperback editions.

Speaker Series: Evolutionary Psychology
Dr. James Walter, Emeritus Adjunctive Professor at Loyola University, Chicago, will explore the theme of evolutionary psychology based on anthropological studies of hunter-gatherer cultures with language since the last ice age. Group values and their effects in relation to natural selection pressures will be examined and discussed as social processes. How do these explain our current psychological abilities?
