Humanist Holiday Carols

End of the Line Humanists had our first holiday social gathering December 17th, 2014.  Several of these humanist holiday carols were written and sung for the occasion; we now add more every year.  Enjoy!  (Feel free to use them, but if printed or shared please include the credits for the lyrics.)

Sing Out, Ye Merry Humanists

(to the tune of "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen")

Sing out, ye merry humanists,
Let nothing you dismay.
For you know it serves humans best
To put blind faith away,
And join in good for its own sake
To show the world today
We bring tidings of reason and light,
Reason and light,
We bring tidings of reason and light.

The season’s joys are myriad,
With food and family too,
And gratefulness for all the rest
We have the whole year through.
We wish for peace on all the earth
The way the faithful do,
But spread tidings of reason and light
Reason and light,
We spread tidings of reason and light.

So sing out, merry humanists,
And let your voices swell,
To banish to obscurity
All word of heaven and hell,
And teach the world what’s moral is
To love all humans well,
And be tidings of reason and light,
Reason and light,
And be tidings of reason and light.

Deck the Halls with Odes to Science

(to the tune of “Deck the Halls” )

Deck the halls with odes to science, Fa la la la la, la la la la

Not predictions from the Mayans, Fa la la la la, la la la la

Nor the songs of coming rapture, Fa la la, la la la, la la la

That's not what we mean to capture, Fa la la la la, la la la la

We prefer the Age of Reason, Fa la la la la, la la la la

Have its celebration season, Fa la la la la, la la la la

Shine a light on superstition, Fa la la, la la la, la la la

It's a happy new tradition, Fa la la la la, la la la la

Let's illuminate December, Fa la la la la, la la la la

With a light we can remember, Fa la la la la, la la la la

All inclusive, all‎ now sparkle, Fa la la, la la la, la la la

Then we can go play some Farkle, Fa la la la la, la la la la

Humanist Jingle Bells

(to the tune of "Jingle Bells")

Humanists, humanists, humanists are we.

Oh what joy it is to be from superstitions free.

Humanists, humanists, as humanists we say

Life is great, for in our minds, reason points the way.

On nature we depend,

On science we rely,

With logic we defend

The knowledge we apply.

We strive to show we care,

In humanhood we stand

To help the one in dark despair

by holding out our hand.

Humanists, humanists, humanists are we

Oh what joy it is to be from superstitions free.

Humanists, humanists, humanists are we.

Life is great we love it all, as you no doubt can see.

Lyrics from the American Humanist Association website

Oh Humanists

(to the tune of “Oh Christmas Tree”)

Oh Humanists oh Humanists

our work is cut out for us

Oh Humanists, oh Humanists

The Christians don't adore us;

We can't be people of the Book;

And Jews won't even take a look

Oh Humanists oh Humanists

But we'll still sing our chorus!

Oh Humanist, oh Humanist,

your path is kinda lonely

Oh Humanist, oh Humanist,

you dwell in present only.

Not Sufi nor Zoroastrian,

no visiting the past-ian.

Oh Humanist, NO Humanist

takes comfort in baloney.

We wish you all merry reason

And a happy new year!

The Twelve Days of Reason

(to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”)

On the 1ST day of reason my good sense said to me:

We don’t get to live eternally.

(Go to 2nd day on bottom of page and work up)

12th   Fight global warming

11th   Teach evolution

10th   Stop discrimination

9th     Educate the planet

8th     Read more than one book

7th     Find your life’s passion

6th     Gaze at the cosmos

5th     LOVE HUMANITY

4th     Work for rights for all

3rd     Help the poor

2nd    Stand for what is true

(’cause) we don’t get to live eternally.
